OWLS is a warm and friendly social group that loves to engage with the world around us. Although most members are retirees, all adults over age 50 are welcome to join our monthly meet-ups as we visit local restaurants, savor the fine arts of Houston, and learn new things. Excursions have included a visit to the Sculpted in Steel: Art Deco Automobiles and Motorcycles exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts; attendance at a Rice University Owls baseball game; a tour of Lanier Theological Library and Chapel; and a road-trip to Fredericksburg.

The OWLS support and participate in many church activities, including as the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and Mardi Gras Party, the Crawfish Boil and the Christmas Sing Along. Many OWLS also attend the Wednesday evening worship service and dinner group, where visitors are likewise welcome.

In April 2018, The OWLS visited the rescued wolves and wolf dogs at the St. Francis Wolf Sanctuary in Montgomery, TX. It was a beautiful day for the outing to this amazing sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and caring for these beautiful animals. They provide accurate and interesting information—dispelling many myths about these frequently misunderstood animals. More interesting, fun, and educational events will be planned throughout the year. Contact Jerry Ballard for more information at jballard@sfch.org
