St. Francis of Assisi

In the Episcopal tradition, saints are recognized as important and influential people in the Christian faith and role models for us today.  Our parish is named after St. Francis, one of the most widely recognized and revered of the saints.  Francis was born in Italy in the late 12th century into a wealthy family, but a conversion experience led him to denounce his father and his money. He is known for his dedication to the Gospel, his care for the poor, and his emphasis on caring for nature and all creatures. Many churches, including ours, have a Blessing of the Animals on or near his feast day on October 4th.

Saint Clare of Assisi

The chapel of St. Francis Episcopal Church is named for St. Clare, one of the first followers of Francis of Assisi. With Francis, she formed a monastic religious order for women in the Franciscan tradition; this order is commonly called the Poor Clares today for their strict adherence to vows of poverty, lives of prayer, and service to the sick.
